Today we are living with the consequences of our short-sighted actions. Out long-term view rarely goes beyond the next weekend. As a result out economic system is on the verge of collapse and companies continue to veiw short-term corrections as the only counter measure. In order for our country to maintain a long-term balance of growth and prosperity we need to understand the potential of furthering our horizons.
In so doing, we will slowly realize that the idea of maintaining a Unuon as large as the United States is an antiquated ideal. For the most part, only the vast portions of the east coast and eastern Midwest still feel wholly apart of the Union. Through my travels I have begun to realize that the rest of the country started relying on the state and local governments over the federal government long ago. State pride has replaced national pride throughout vast portions of the Union. The fracturing of America will start slowly to be sure, and in small doses. State governments will slowly but surely increase their power and position leading to individuals leaning on these governments even more to provide functions now controlled by the federal government.
Let me clear though. I beleive this change will take decades and will come about through peaceful measures. Financial legacies and burdens will play a major role in the eventual breakup of the Union. Increasing the credit and tax burdens of the markets today is sowing the seeds of future discord. Why should The rest of the Union support the poor decisions and financial burdens of California? This question and ones of similar nature are already making their way around the shady edges of American State Politics.

This Newsweek article is a bit long in the tooth. But it is important. It defines the beginning of a movement in America to re-clarify our religious underpinnings. We are becoming a society less interested in our religious past and institutions and focusing more on intellectual discourse and philosophical learning. Is America becoming a post-religious society, or just a post-Christian one? This is the singular most important question posed by the article and an idea worthy of our understanding and time.
All of us, whether we agree with the current war situation or not, need to take a moment to reflect on the loss of life that was and is necessary to protect our freedoms.
“Soliders from the U.S. Army Old Guard place flags at grave stones at Arlington National Cemetery May 21, 2009 in Arlington, Virginia. It took 1,300 soldiers, sailors and Marines about three hours to place a flag at each of the more than 300,000 gravestones at Arlington ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.” (via:boston.com)
“ Washington will have to play a special role in this new perestroika, not just because the United States wields great economic, political and military power in today’s global world, but because America was the main architect, and America’s elite the main beneficiary, of the current world economic model. That model is now cracking and will, sooner or later, be replaced. That will be a complex and painful process for everyone, including the United States. ”
This article is a good read and brings to light, yet again, the basis of the problem that America faces today. We are destroying our future by putting off the problems of today.
This question is constantly asked, and will not go away anytime soon. The question is an easy yes. The real question is how can we rein in the constant spending? The answer to this question might seem simple but the implementation is difficult at best. In the long run, my fellow constituents, we need to stop relying on the government for our everyday needs. our government has such wide ranging priorities at the moment that none of them are getting the attention they deserve.
To add further complexity to the situation, each constituent has their idea of what the priorities should be. Why? Because we live in a diverse culture and cover a wide track of land. Simply put, the United States is too big for a federal government to function properly on a local level. This understanding is the key that will allow our governments to better prioritize the needs of the people. Local governments need to regain the power to control local interests. Federal money should not be spent on public schools, for instance. We look to the federal government to provide too much and the local governments to provide too little. A previous post of mine begins to sum up what it will take to reprioritze America and put us back on the right footing.
I love this shot of Obama meeting with aides in Paris. This is what real people look like when they’re working, talking. One guy is even wearing flip-flops.
WOW! you mean we now have real people in the White house? Where did all the drones and cyborgs go?
Obviously, our government has an obligation to prevent future economic meltdowns like the current recession. But with Democrats firmly in control of the reforms, will the government go too far and hurt the overall balance of capitalism?
Congress needs to find a way to keep an eye on the game without affecting its outcome. I suppose on Wednesday we will know the answer.
