Commentary: Can U.S. afford trillion more in debt?

This article is a good read and brings to light, yet again, the basis of the problem that America faces today. We are destroying our future by putting off the problems of today.
This question is constantly asked, and will not go away anytime soon. The question is an easy yes. The real question is how can we rein in the constant spending? The answer to this question might seem simple but the implementation is difficult at best. In the long run, my fellow constituents, we need to stop relying on the government for our everyday needs. our government has such wide ranging priorities at the moment that none of them are getting the attention they deserve.
To add further complexity to the situation, each constituent has their idea of what the priorities should be. Why? Because we live in a diverse culture and cover a wide track of land. Simply put, the United States is too big for a federal government to function properly on a local level. This understanding is the key that will allow our governments to better prioritize the needs of the people. Local governments need to regain the power to control local interests. Federal money should not be spent on public schools, for instance. We look to the federal government to provide too much and the local governments to provide too little. A previous post of mine begins to sum up what it will take to reprioritze America and put us back on the right footing.
